Focusing On the One

When I told my best friend that I was serious about starting a blog, one of the first questions she asked was if I aimed to gain a large following. I responded by saying, “No, I just want to reach one heart, at least.” Although this response made me quite proud, what my best friend didn’t know was that if she had asked me this question a month before she would have gotten the complete opposite of that response. This was a question that I had wrestled with on my own, and it almost hindered me from starting the blog; I was so nervous that not a lot of people would read, until God checked me, as usual. He reminded me that my focus was sooo off, what if I had a thousand followers and none but one got the message.

As creators, we’re often so focused on the 1000 people who we hope will read our posts or listen to our music that we forget about the people who are already supporting us. Imagine if we were to plant a seed in one person’s life and they used it to inspire and transform the lives of many others. Wouldn’t that be more satisfying? This thought is so real and it encourages me to focus on that 1 person before the 1000, daily.

My intention is to plant seeds of encouragement, change, and reassurance in someone’s life so that they can be the best version of themselves. If I can have a positive impact on at least one person’s life then I know that I am doing something right.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that I don’t want many people to read Journeying Soul because that would be a lie. I dedicate a lot of time to this platform and it makes me so happy to see people read and relate to the messages that I put out there. I just have a changed perspective when it comes to reaching people through my work. One thing that I have learned is that once I show up and give 100 %, everything else will fall into place.

P.S. Happy first day of spring darlings! 🌷🐣☀️

  1. You are absolutely right!!!! 1000 followers may not happen in a day, or 2-3 months, but as long as your content is original, genuine, and from the heart the right people will follow and be inspired.
I actually felt like that “one” person you were talking about was me. It may not be, but you got that “one” in me! #loveyourblog #proudofyou

  2. I can completely relate with having started from the bottom with Pillow Talk. When it was started it was about 5 of us and some days it would just be me and one other lady. My heart was so discouraged but just like you I heard God’s purpose whisper in my ear and I was soon after encouraged! Quality not quantity. Stewardship over Results… God is always looking after us to see what we do and how we do it. I am always of the scripture “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters”- Colossians 3:23

Any and Everything the Lord places on our hearts

it isn’t about “how many” but “how we do it”… God is following, God is reading, and God is liking! 😉

ps. Pillow Talk always outgrew every apartment I had in later years to come. We’ve housed over 25 women on a given night and on those nights (my milk and honey nights) i’m reminded of how I responded (with gratitude nonetheless) to and in the wilderness (with 1 other lady in the room…).

    1. Wow, this is so encouraging! I love how you said “Stewardship over Results” because it’s easy for me to forget that when God gives us a task he also requires us to be a responsible steward of it; without the expectation of a reward or a large following number in this case.
