One thing I value more than anything is spending time with family. Whenever I have extra time or an opportunity to meet with loved ones, I’m always down for the ride. Two weeks ago, I took an impromptu trip to Atlanta, Georgia after three whole years! Y’all, when I say impromptu I mean that in the realist way; I saw an opportunity booked a flight, packed and departed all within a few hours. Talk about adventure!
Despite my usual nervousness, as I stepped off the plane and met my family it felt as if no time had passed, the atmosphere was one filled with love and laughter.
When my brother asked if I had anywhere specific I wanted to go while I was there all I could think was aquarium. The Georgia Aquarium is known as the largest aquarium in the world and the nerd in me just had to check it off my to-do list. Between the hype around the aquarium and my generally high expectations, I would describe the experience as okay, but nieces loved it and for that I was content.
Here I got a behind the scenes tour of the delta tech ops building. My brother has always loved airplanes and it was a breath of fresh air to see the passion in his eyes as he showed me what he did for a living. He is literally living his dream and I couldn’t be prouder. It was also cool to not be a passenger but rather an observer of what it takes to keep an airplane in the sky. I literally felt like I learned the anatomy of aviation in just about an hour.
Between my aunt and uncle, I can’t tell you who loves taking photos more. This camera-shy girl took photo after photo while I spent time with them. That included these infamous post-church pictures. As hesitant as I was towards taking these I’m so glad I can look back and cherish that moment.
My last weekend in Georgia happened to be Memorial weekend and of course, we had a cookout. This was the perfect opportunity for everyone to come together and have a good time, and believe me, that’s exactly what we did. The day included dancing, singing, reminiscing, lots of photos and of course food. We ended the festivities by lighting sparklers, making videos and just enjoying the moment. It was so hard to think about leaving after a night like this one.
P.S: Can you tell by these pictures that this girl loves the kids lol!?
Although I expected to take a plethora of photos on this trip I decided to be present instead. I love experiences that cause you to look away from your phone (+ camera even) and truly live in the moment. During my time away I got to relax, re-center and Just Live. This trip was refreshing and it was exactly what I NEEDED after a long semester.
